Road Construction, Maintenance, Rehabilitation and Storm Water Drainage Training

This highly interactive three-day course will provide participants with the necessary information on planning, managing investigation works prior to commencement of major site works in road construction and maintenance.

Description

Roads and highways are the primary means of travel and trade among communities, and they play a vital role in integrating economic activities into local life. Civil infrastructure systems represent huge public investments and are expected to provide services for very long periods of time. The road sector faces huge challenges. To minimize downtime of roads for maintenance activities, the overall quality of road construction has to be upgraded.  The time slots available for repair and rehabilitation works are becoming tighter and tighter, which means that maintenance techniques have to speed up.

Proper road construction and maintenance contributes to reliable transport at reduced cost, as there is a direct link between road condition and vehicle operating costs. An improperly maintained road can also represent an increased safety hazard to the user, leading to more accidents, with their associated human and property costs. Road construction and maintenance have specific needs, standards and objectives that need to be met.

Therefore, this highly interactive three-day course will provide participants with the necessary information on planning, managing investigation works prior to commencement of major site works in road construction and maintenance. The course will introduce participants to the principles of use and maintaining basic hand tools, preparing a road surface and placing by hand asphalt roads, earthworks layer works and drainage. Participants will also be able to understand and explain basic earthmoving methods, earthworks, layer works and drainage works, road finishing works and road maintenance works.
